Description
A stemmed glass bowl that doubles as a sculptural object — the kind of thing a gallery might place on a plinth if a plinth were also useful at dinner. The base is a fully realized fruit or animal form rendered in tinted borosilicate: a yellow pear with a single green leaf sprout, a rounded green apple, a tortoise in deep forest glass, a purple hedgehog whose spines read as topography under raking light, a pink rabbit with ears folded back into the stem. Each figure is solid, dimensionally articulated, and fused directly into the clear stem that rises to support a wide, shallow coupe bowl. The glass is notably thin and light for its apparent solidity — high-clarity borosilicate, rated for temperatures from 0 to 100 degrees Celsius, that refracts and magnifies the figure beneath any liquid poured above it. The bowl itself is unadorned and transparent, which keeps the sculptural base as the visual anchor. Fruit-motif stems extend across the wider collection into a cake stand format, where a pear or grape-branch stem elevates a wide flat serving plate, and a cloche variant uses a cherry-and-twig knob as its handle. The entire series sits at the intersection of collectible object and functioning tableware — neither category cancels the other.
Inspiration
These glass bowls treat the orchard and the garden as structural support.
Instead of a standard stem, each piece is held up by a sculptural borosilicate fruit or a tiny glass creature, turning a simple dessert into a miniature diorama.
A cluster of purple grapes or a golden pear supports your sorbet or fruit tart, making the table feel like a storybook scene. The glass is thin and light, letting the vibrant colors of the stems take center stage.
Highlights
- Borosilicate glass construction rated 0 to 100 degrees Celsius — thin-walled and light without sacrificing structural integrity
- Sculptural base rendered as a three-dimensional fruit or animal figure: variants include yellow pear, green apple, green-and-yellow tortoise, purple and amber hedgehog, pink and white rabbit
- Color is intrinsic to the glass material, not a surface coating — the amber, green, and purple tones are fired into the borosilicate and will not fade or chip
- Wide shallow coupe bowl is clear and undecorated, centering all visual attention on the sculptural stem below
- Collection extends to a cake stand and a cloche: the stand uses a fruit-branch stem to elevate a flat serving plate; the cloche uses a cherry-and-branch knob as handle
- Grape and strawberry branch variants feature multi-element stems with colored leaves, berries, and branch junctions visible as separate fused glass elements
- When liquid is added, the water-and-glass layering creates a natural magnification effect that amplifies the figure in the stem
- Lead-free borosilicate glass throughout — color achieved through high-temperature firing, not dye or paint application
Notices
Glass is fragile — handle with care and avoid sudden thermal shock such as moving directly from a cold refrigerator to a hot surface. Not suitable for oven use. Minor dimensional variation between individual pieces is a characteristic of the borosilicate forming process and not a defect. Fruit and animal figurative elements are fused glass and should be treated as decorative structural components — do not apply force to stems or base figures. Clean gently; avoid abrasive materials on the sculptural base.
